With an average precipitation of 250mm, the Chihuahuan desert is the largest desert of North American. Reality is, it did not look like a desert based on the historical recordings from the Spanish when they arrived on these lands back in the early 1600’s: They described these “arid” lands as beautiful tall grasses full of wildlife, among them bison, deer, antelope, leopards, grizzly bears, wolves, otters and beavers. There was plenty of water and vegetation across the region that regulated the climate.

Nowadays, despite being a “desert”, we are getting back beautiful grasslands using livestock (mainly a combination of cows, burros and sheep) under a rational, holistic, regenerative approach, respecting the natural succession of plants: from bare ground, to weeds, to annuals, to perennials, to forbs (flowering herbs) and trees.
